Selly Oak Tai Chi Classes

We run a friendly and accessible weekly Tai Chi class in Selly Oak. Our Thursday morning class is at the Quaker Meeting Centre, 930 Bristol Rd, Birmingham B29 6NB, from 10.15am until 12 Midday. This class used to be held in Moorpool Hall in Harborne but has now moved to Selly Oak.

The class is conveniently situated for people who live in and around Selly Oak and Harborne, and other nearby areas such as Edgbaston, Saltley, Bournville, Oldbury, Pype Hayes, Halesowen, Rowley Regis, Warley, Witton Harborne, Bartley Green, Perry Cotteridge, Cradley Heath, King’s Heath, Sandwell, Moseley, Quinton & Bearwood, Woodgate.

Tai Chi Class Abilities

We have all abilities in these classes, and beginners are always welcome. We teach the Yang Style of Tai Chi, the most popular Tai Chi style found in the west, and we teach Yang Style Long Form. Tai Chi Form is the graceful, flowing movements that most people think of when they hear the words Tai Chi.

It’s what many Chinese people do in the parks each morning to help keep them centred and balanced.

Chi Kungs

As well as practising the Form, after the warm-ups, we generally do some Chi Kungs, which are repeated movements that help circulate the Chi (life energy) around the body smoothly.

This is what all Tai Chi is about, and it is what gives it its de-stressing, relaxing qualities.

Chief Instructor Steve Jones, who leads the class, has studied Tai Chi for 30 years.

Steve is very approachable and down-to-earth and would love to have you along to class, therefore if you’d like any further information at all.

We also have other 3 other classes on Thursday (Sutton Coldfield in the Afternoon & evening, please click here for class times. )

You can call him on 07845981677 or email steve@centraltaichi.co.uk

Acupressure

Unique to our Thursday morning Selly Oak class, we also have Fleur along, practising Acupressure on anyone who is interested in giving this a go. Acupressure is like Acupuncture but there are no needles involved, only light touch at certain key points of the body, again to assist energy flow, and to remove energy blockages.

Our Selly Oak class is a popular, fun class, and we walk you through everything as we go, so if there is anything you don’t understand, don’t worry, we can go through it in class, alternatively give us a call. We would love to have you along.

If you’d like any further information, just fill in the contact form, give us a call or simply turn up at the venue.

In the meantime, here is what a couple of class members say about the class.

What our class member have to say

We also run an event at the Botanical Gardens every April as part of World Tai Chi Day, where over a hundred of our members turn up to celebrate Tai Chi, do an hour’s Tai Chi (a number of different aspects are on offer) and enjoy the beautiful gardens (with free entry).
